Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.
Fans can anticipate finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
