A person who laced candy with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two boys both nine and ten years old.
The accused was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The elderly man, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The accused was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in recently.
The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.
"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his family member contacted the police about his concerns.
She said the defendant continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the following morning.
"The police had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
Mrs Prior stated the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the authorities again.
She explained Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
